Top1Trend is an independent analytics platform that tracks and analyzes YouTube's trending content. We collect data from YouTube's official API to provide insights into what's trending, why it's trending, and how videos perform over time.
Our goal is to make YouTube trend data accessible and understandable for content creators, marketers, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding video content performance.
Data Collection
We use YouTube's official Data API v3 to fetch trending videos. This ensures our data is accurate and reflects YouTube's actual trending lists. We comply with YouTube's API Terms of Service and rate limits.
We track trending videos across 10+ regions including the United States, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Brazil, India, and Indonesia. Each region has its own trending list curated by YouTube.
Trending data is refreshed every 6 hours (0:00, 6:00, 12:00, 18:00 UTC). Video metrics (views, likes, comments) for actively trending videos are updated every 6 hours. Historical data is preserved indefinitely.
We capture the top 50 trending videos per region per day. For each video, we store title, channel, category, view count, like count, comment count, duration, publish date, and thumbnail URL.
Hot Score Calculation
Our proprietary Hot Score measures a video's trending momentum on a 0-100 scale. It combines multiple factors to identify the most impactful trending content.
Rank Factor (40%)
Higher positions on the trending chart contribute more to the score. #1 rank = 40 points, #10 = 30 points, #50 = 10 points.
Velocity Factor (30%)
Measures how quickly a video is gaining views. Videos with high 24-hour view growth receive higher scores. 10M+ daily views = 30 points.
Engagement Factor (30%)
Combines like-to-view ratio and comment-to-view ratio. Comments are weighted 5x higher as they indicate stronger engagement.
Longevity Bonus (up to +10)
Videos that maintain trending positions for multiple days receive bonus points. Each day in Top 10 = +2 points, Top 50 = +0.5 points.
All-Time Ranking Score
The All-Time Score measures a video's cumulative trending impact over its entire history. It rewards sustained success and peak performance.
Score = Days Score + Peak Bonus + Recency Bonus + View Bonus
- • Days in Top 50: 10 points/day
- • Days in Top 10: +40 points/day
- • Days in Top 3: +100 points/day
- • Days at #1: +200 points/day
- • Peak Rank Bonus: (51 - peak_rank) × 20
- • Recency Bonus: Max 500 pts, decays 2 pts/day
- • View Bonus: log(views) × 30, max 500 pts

Data Quality & Limitations
Accuracy
All data comes directly from YouTube's official API. We do not modify or estimate video metrics. Historical data reflects snapshots taken at our update intervals.
Limitations
- YouTube's API doesn't provide real-time data; there may be delays of up to a few hours
- Dislike counts are not available via the public API since December 2021
- Some videos may be removed or made private after we capture their data
- Trending algorithms vary by region and may change without notice
